EPIC preaching
change your swing . . .
If I had to choose one resource for preachers willing to "change their swing," it wouldn't be a preaching textbook. Rather, it would be Edwin Schlossberg's Interactive Excellence: Defining and Developing New Standards for the Twenty-first Century (New York: Ballantine, 1998).
Schlossberg is the #1 interactive designer in the world. He specializes in interactive museum exhibits, but he makes his real living designing learning experiences. Schlossberg (who lives in NYC and is married to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg) writes words that every preacher should memorize. Just replace the words "project" and "exhibit" with "sermon": "When I start on a project, I tell my clients that they have to choose: They can try to transfer lots of information about the ideas or products that they are interested in, or they can create an exhibit that makes the visitor smarter so that he or she can become a more active, interested, and questioning audience for the ideas or product."
This is the choice of every preacher. It's the essence of "the change of swing."
